Students' leadership Empowerment Session
The SIES OIOP Foundation successfully organized a Student Leadership Empowerment Session aimed at nurturing leadership skills among school student council members across Mumbai. The event, held on 28th April 2025 at the SIES High School Auditorium, saw enthusiastic participation from 74 students representing 30 schools.
The session began with an invocation, followed by a formal welcome. The keynote speaker, Mrs. Kalyani Arumugam, Headmistress of SIES High School, delivered an inspiring address on leadership. She introduced the mantra of "3C + 2P + Mentor" — emphasizing Character, Commitment, Communication, Planning, and Purpose, supported by strong mentorship. Students were encouraged to introspect and reflect on the core question: "Who am I?”
To provide inspiration, a video on Shri Ratan Tata’s leadership journey was screened, followed by a thought-provoking discussion. The interactive segment included a group activity where students identified challenges faced by student leaders, brainstormed innovative solutions, outlined required support systems, and discussed skill development areas. Each group presented their ideas to the audience within the allocated time.
In the concluding segment, Mrs. Arumugam recapped the key takeaways and assigned a home-based activity—students were asked to collaboratively design an annual plan for school activities under the guidance of their teachers and share it with the OIOP Coordinator. Participants were also requested to fill out a feedback form.
Recognizing the importance of physical well-being, students also participated in a drill session comprising breathing exercises and engaging physical activities aimed at enhancing physical and mental coordination.
The session formally concluded at 12:15 PM, followed by an internal review meeting with the organizing team at 12:25 PM.
Key observations and suggestions included:
- Acknowledgement of the session as a strong beginning toward student empowerment.
- Proposal for a paper presentation symposium to further channelize student potential.
- Appreciation of the engagement, discipline, and enthusiasm displayed by students.
- A request from participants for quarterly follow-up sessions.
- Suggestions for future sessions to focus on discipline building and soft skills.
This initiative marks a significant step in SIES OIOP Foundation’s ongoing commitment to developing responsible, confident, and value-driven student leaders.
