SIES OIOP Foundation, SIES IIEM and UNESCO Climate Science Literacy Poster Exhibition

SIES Indian Institute of Environment Management (SIES IIEM) was tasked with the production, installation, and utilization of a permanent exhibition of the Climate Science Literacy posters at its campus in Juinagar, Navi Mumbai. This initiative carried out under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Natural Sciences (SC), was within the framework of Major Programme II "Natural Sciences.”

As part of the project, the activities included the installation and display 28 posters (27 from UNESCO, 1 on collaboration between UNESCO and SIES IIEM as agreed with the UNESCO, themed around Climate Science Literacy.

The launch event held on 24 June 2025, and the attendees comprised over 75 participants, including students, educators, parents, industry representatives, and government stakeholders. A special message from Dr. Benno Böer, Programme Specialist, Natural Sciences, UNESCO, New Delhi, acknowledging the display of the posters at SIES IIEM and highlighting the global relevance of climate literacy initiatives was also shared during the launch event. We had an overwhelming response and received entries from over 127 school students across Mumbai, consisting of creative and conscious contributions of our young participants.

The Climate Science Literacy Poster exhibition was inaugurated by our distinguished Chief Guest Mr. Sanjeev Raina, Executive Director, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) , accompanied by Mr. Sohail Akhtar, Net Zero Initiatives-Corporate HSSE , BPCL and Mr. Arul Muthunathan V , Executive Director, Engineering & Technology, BPCL. The other esteemed guests included Dr. Vikrant Bhalerao, Sub-Regional Officer, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Navi Mumbai, Mr. Mangesh Brahme, General Manager of Thane Belapur Industries Association and Mr. P. Sethuraman, Member of the Managing Council, SIES and other esteemed members from the Industries and the Government Agencies.

This event also included the prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the Climate Science Poster Competition themed "Ending Plastic Pollution”.
